To help local artisans sell their wares, an arts and crafts fair will be held at the Ballard Convention Center on Saturday.
Event organizer Beth Simon said the fair is a chance for people to do some Christmas shopping in advance as well.
âYou can buy something special that they won’t find in a one-of-a-kind, lovingly handmade store,â she said. âIt gives people here in this community – who have been sitting inside for a year and a half making and making things – it gives them the opportunity to share their expertise.â
Simon said she noticed that there weren’t a lot of craft fairs in Madisonville. So several months ago, she decided to start a Facebook group called Madisonville Arts and Crafts Faire. When she realized the popularity of the group, she decided to organize a small event.
âIt was such a success that we thought we should do it again this summer,â she said.
She and several members of the group went to the Ballard Center to ask about the event being held inside the building, and they were able to find a date that worked, Simon said.
The fair will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and include all homemade items such as dresses, candles, t-shirts, key chains, woodworking, soap, signs and resin items. .
The hours are a little later in the day to accommodate anyone who may have to work, giving them the chance to stop afterwards.
When it comes to payment options, she said, there is a mix of electronic payment and cash only. As of the last tally on Monday, Simon said around 35 vendors were participating and there were still vendor openings available.
âAs long as we have an opening available, I’m happy if anyone does something and wants to join us,â she said.
The fair will take precautions against COVID-19, Simon said.
