WINONA, Minn. (WKBT) – Winona Health Hospice will present “Good Grief: Painting Through Loss,” a hands-on watercolor class, from 1-3:30 p.m. on Friday, April 8.
Faye Schoen will lead the class in the lower level of Senior Living at Watkins Manor at 175 E Wabasha St. in Winona.
Participants will receive instructions and materials to complete a step-by-step painting. They will learn wet-on-wet techniques, with tips and tricks for relaxing and enjoying the magic of watercolor painting. Winona Health Hospice will provide the materials.
One of the goals of the class is for participants to relax in the process while enjoying each other’s company.
Schoen is donating her services in memory of her late husband, Tom, a former chaplain and bereavement coordinator at Winona Health Hospice. She has many years of training, experience and teaching as an artist and a former special education and community education teacher.
“The process of creating art can alleviate emotional stress and anxiety by creating a physiological mood-altering response,” according to Cathy Malchiodi’s Art Therapy Sourcebook.
Space is limited. To register, contact Winona Health Hospice at (507) 457-4468 or email [email protected] by Friday, April 1.
