Wyld Market will be offering local art year round at the Reno Public Market

Reno artisans won’t have to wait for holiday markets and special events to find local crafts on hand.

Reno Public Market its newest tenant, Wyld Market, better known over the past three years for its pop-up style art markets.

The market will provide year-round access to locally made goods, from pottery and tea to Reno-themed stickers to the old Shoppers Square. Wyld Market is scheduled to open in spring 2022.

“Local festivals and pop-ups have been among the only viable sources of income for local artists, and now this cohesive space will allow hundreds of artists to sell their creations at any time of the year,” said Doug Wiele, President and Founding Partner. from the promoter, Foothill Partners Inc.

The boutique will feature a selection of works by local artists and small businesses that don’t have their own brick-and-mortar showcases. The arts business group, Wandering Wyld, has been running pop-up retail events in the area for several years, but decided they were ready to have a full-time home.

“We realized in our last space that we needed a more permanent establishment to deliver the best to our local artists,” said Rachel Macintyre, CEO and Founder of Wandering Wyld.

Retail will now be housed in a 3,000 square foot retail space instead of the typical Wandering Wyld business model. Once opened, the space will house the creations of more than 60 local artists at a time, although Wandering Wyld has worked with more than 350 artisans.

Wandering Wyld will also be showcasing its new “table du jour” experience at the Wyld Market. Instead of artists using market space for months at a time, manufacturers will now be able to test a brick and mortar establishment by reserving a table for as little time as a single day.

“They take people under their wing, they are kind of a seal of approval for local artists. You know, if you get to the market, it’s good,” said Nettie Oliverio, director of arts and culture. culture of Foothill Partners Inc. “We can soak up everything these creators do. Typically, one would have to travel all over the place to find these artists.”

Oliverio praised the team at Wandering Wyld for giving the community one place to find items that come from all over the area but ultimately are all made in the area.

“I would say a lot of what’s made now is what we could have gotten from our great-grandmothers, grandfathers and their friends: fine woodworking, apothecary products, herbs and jewelry, ”Oliverio said.

Wyld Market will be opening a winter 2021 vacation pop-up at the Reno Public Market before officially moving in.

The Reno Public Market, at the corner of Plumb Lane and South Virginia Street, is expected to be a $ 50 million project that will include a mix of retail space as well as public market-style food and drink options. .
